Closing Date: 09/05/2024

Funding for up to three years for a research project focused on period pain in adolescence.

Wellbeing of Women is a UK charity devoted to improving the health of women and babies. Money is raised by the charity to fund medical research, training of health professionals and to provide health information for women. Reckitt is a British multinational consumer goods company producing health, hygiene and nutrition products.

Wellbeing of Women and Reckitt are providing funding for a research project focused on period pain in adolescence. The focus of the call is on addressing the under researched area of mild, moderate and strong pain in adolescents associated with their periods. The following key areas are of particular interest (the scope is not limited to just these areas):

  • The role of Pharmacists, Primary Care (GPs, sexual and reproductive health services) and other healthcare providers in education on the topic of this call.
  • Education in schools/school curriculums.
  • The myths and misunderstandings around period pain.
  • Barriers to good self-management and treatment.
  • Impact of period pain on school/higher education attendance and aspects of quality of life, including for example upon relationships, hobbies, as an early experience of serious pain.

Collaborative applications across disciplines, with patient and public involvement and engagement at the centre are encouraged. Research should be focused on generating results which can be linked to practical outcomes and used to inform policy makers, head teachers and other educators, school nurses, pharmacy staff, employers and parents.
