VDI Invites Applications for 2024 Young Automation Challenge in Intralogistics

A competition in measurement and automation technology for students at institutions of higher education in Germany.

VDI Verein Deutscher Ingenieure e.V. (Association of German Engineers) is a membership organisation bringing together engineers from all disciplines and professional functions. VDI provides a knowledge and competence platform for its members while also promoting new technologies and technical solutions for an increased quality of life, a better environment and more prosperity.

The VDI Young Automation Challenge (YAC) is a competition in the field of measurement and automation technology aimed at students at institutions of higher education. It is intended to promote young automation talent and motivate participants to develop innovative approaches that will advance the industrial and technological future.

Teams have the opportunity to solve challenging practical tasks in programming, control technology and sensor systems, which allows them to gain experience and network with like-minded people from all over Germany, as well as with experts and potential employers in the professional world of measurement and automation technology. The topic of the 2024 competition is ‘Intralogistics – Always in the right place at the right time’, presenting a logistical challenge.

Eligible to apply are students of technical fields at universities, institutions of higher education (Hochschulen) and vocational schools (Berufsschulen) in Germany, who are at least 18 years old. Candidates may apply with their own team of four people, or apply individually and be put together with a new team at the competition.

Three winning teams receive a cash prize as follows:

  • First place: €4,500.
  • Second place: €1,000.
  • Third place: €500.

Registrations for the 2024 competition must be submitted by the deadline of 31 December 2023.
