US Department of Defense Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program Now Open
The US Department of Defense (DoD) Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP) was established in 1992 and is one of the largest funders of clinical research in the United States.
The aim of the Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program (PRMRP) is to support research that has the potential to profoundly impact the development and implementation of medical devices, drugs, and clinical guidance that will enhance the precision and efficacy of prevention, diagnosis, and treatment across a wide range of disciplines including cardiovascular health, autoimmune diseases and immunology, infectious diseases, internal medicine, neurological and psychological health, orthopaedic and regenerative medicine, and respiratory health and injury.
All organisations, including international organisations, are eligible to apply.
The following Awards are open to application:
Discovery Awards: The Award supports the exploration of a highly innovative new concept or untested theory in the Topic Area(s) of interest. Eligible applicants are postdoctoral fellows or clinical fellows (or equivalent) and above. The maximum funding is $200,000 for direct costs (plus indirect costs). The maximum duration is two years. The Pre-Application (Letter of Intent) deadline is 28 March 2019.
Focused Program Award: An Award supporting a synergistic, multidisciplinary research programme of at least four distinct but complementary projects addressing an overarching goal in the topic area(s) of interest. The PI must be an independent investigator at or above the level of Full Professor (or equivalent). The maximum funding is $7.2 million for total costs (including direct and indirect costs). The maximum duration is four years.
Investigator-Initiated Research Award: The Award supports research that will make an original and important contribution to the field of research and/or patient care in the topic area(s) of interest. Eligible applicants must be at the Assistant Professor level or above (or equivalent). The maximum funding is $1.2 million for direct costs (plus indirect costs). The maximum duration is three years.
Technology/Therapeutic Development Award: An Award to support the translation of promising preclinical findings into clinical applications for prevention, detection, diagnosis, treatment, or quality of life in the topic area(s) of interest. Eligible applicants must be at the Assistant Professor level or above (or equivalent). The maximum funding is $3 million for direct costs (plus indirect costs). The maximum duration is three years.
Clinical Trial Award: The Award supports the rapid implementation of clinical trials of novel interventions with the potential to have a significant impact on patient care in the topic area(s)of interest. Eligible applicants are investigators at the Assistant Professor level or above (or equivalent). There is no maximum funding limit, but the requested funding must be appropriate for the scope of work proposed. The maximum duration is four years.
The above four Awards have a pre-Application (Letter of Intent) deadline of 14 March 2019.
