Upcoming Deadline for EoI on Antibiotic Resistance (France)

In 2015, the World Health Organisation implemented a global initiative to fight antimicrobial resistance, with a particular focus on antibiotic resistance. France is one of the European countries most affected by antibiotic resistance with an antibiotics consumption rate 30% higher than the European average. In response, France (through its Agence Nationale de la Recherche, ANR) has dedicated €40 million over ten years to a priority research programme on antibiotic resistance which is scientifically directed by Inserm.

This call for expressions of interest is a non-selective first phase intended to support the drafting of one or more future calls for projects. Projects must involve a holistic and interdisciplinary approach and can range from fundamental research to clinical, veterinary or environmental applications. The expressions of interest must focus on one or more of the following four challenges:

Dynamics and control of the emergence, transmission and spread of antibiotic resistance.

Optimisation of antibiotics use in human and veterinary medicine.

Individual, sociological, economic, political and cultural factors related to antibiotic resistance.

Therapeutic innovation.

Eventual funding for future related calls for projects can only be awarded to French higher education and/or research establishments. The intention for future call(s) is funding of €1 to €3 million per project over 3 to 6 years.

The first step for this scheme is an initial non-obligatory, non-selective call for Expressions of Interest. After this deadline, Inserm will organise a meeting that applicants will be invited to attend, where the formation of multidisciplinary consortia will be encouraged. Following this meeting, the scientific steering committee will decide on launching one or two selective calls for projects on all or a portion of the identified challenges.

Expressions of interest should be submitted online by the 31 March 2020 (by 11:00 CEST) deadline.
