Universities Ireland Invites Applications for History Bursary 2021-2022

Universities Ireland, the body that promotes collaboration amongst universities in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, is offering bursaries to students commencing postgraduate study in Ireland or the UK on a topic relating to the 1912-1923 period in Ireland – the decade of the First World War and the division of the island into the states of Ireland (Irish Free State) and Northern Ireland.

Applications are invited from recent graduates who will begin a postgraduate course (either a PhD or Master’s degree by research) at an Irish or UK university in the 2021-2022 academic year on a relevant topic. Applications are particularly welcome from students undertaking work on the impact of events in 1921 on the island of Ireland.

These bursaries are aimed primarily at students of history, although they are also open to students from related disciplines such as literature, politics, economics, sociology and religion.

At least two bursaries of €13,000 are available and they must be taken up for the academic year 2021-2022.

Applications incorporate an essay of 2,000 words outlining the proposed research topic.

The deadline to apply for a Universities Ireland History Bursary is 13 May 2021 (16:00).
