Royal Photographic Society Bursaries Open for Application

The Royal Photographic Society (RPS) is an educational charity and membership society that aims to promote the art and science of photography and support photographers in realising their potential, irrespective of their level of knowledge, equipment or skills. RPS has an international membership base and also acts as a public advocate for photography and photographers.

The RPS administers a range of bursaries and awards to encourage the educational, creative and professional development of photographers and support documentation projects for environmental and social issues.

The 2020 application round is now open for several of the RPS bursaries, including:

Environmental Awareness Bursary

One-year bursary to support photographic projects that promote environmental awareness and involve creative interpretation of the subject as well as documentary and editorial photography.

Applicants must be living or studying in the UK and should have a talent for taking photographs and an interest in current environmental concerns.

The bursary award is £3,000 to assist with travel expenses, photographic equipment and other project-related costs.

Postgraduate Bursary

Support for a postgraduate student studying photography or undertaking photography research.

Photography is interpreted in its widest sense to include digital and traditional photographic media, the art and science of photography and image-based written work

Eligible applicants are postgraduate students in the UK or overseas. Applicants can apply at any stage of their studies but must demonstrate a specific outcome for their proposed project.

The bursary award is £3,500.

Joan Wakelin Bursary

Support for the production of a new photographic essay on an overseas social documentary issue.

Application is open to anyone, irrespective of age or nationality.

The bursary award is £2,000 to support the production of the proposed project.

Applications for all of the bursaries are submitted online via the RPS website.
