Round 6 of Global Challenges Research Fund Networking Grants Open

The Academy of Medical Sciences delivers the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) Networking Grants programme in partnership with the British Academy, the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Royal Society.

GCRF Networking Grants are broadly themed and eligible activities include hosting collaborative meetings, visits or workshops and building pilot data. Networking activities should be problem-orientated and solution focused, and aim to generate new ideas and innovative approaches to addressing global challenges. The networks must be newly constructed collaborations, be interdisciplinary in nature and the primary benefit must be to promote growth and development in developing countries.

Applications should focus on building a collaborative network involving a joint application between an overseas researcher (Lead Applicant) from a DAC-listed country and a UK researcher (Co-Applicant) resident within the UK for the duration of the award.

To be eligible, both the overseas researcher and UK researcher:

Should have completed a PhD or have experience at an equivalent level.

Must have proven research experience in their field.

Must currently hold a permanent position or fixed term contract for the duration of the grant at a university or research institute.

Must be affiliated with a university or research institute that is a government or non-governmental organisation that is not for profit and has the necessary research capacity and capability to support the conduct of the specified research.

Funding is available for 40 awards per year of up to £25,000 for the networking activity. Awards are available for up to one year. If the budget is not spent at the end of the award period, applicants may be able to apply for a no-cost-extension.

Applications to Round 6 must be submited by 31 March 2020 (16:00 GMT).
