Prestigious Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize Now Open for Nominations

The DFG’s Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize was first established in 1985 and is among the most important research awards in Germany. Up to ten awards are presented annually to researchers in any field who have demonstrated superior achievements in their research areas both in a national and an international context. Nominees must show exceptional promise for future top-level accomplishments that will have a sustainable impact on the German research landscape. The focus of the award is particularly on researchers with outstanding accomplishments in the early stages of their career.

The award comprises a cash prize of up to €2.5million.

Nominations may be submitted to the DFG by universities and other doctorate-granting higher education institutions in Germany, all members of the DFG, the Helmholtz Association of National Research Centres, the elected spokespersons of the DFG’s review boards, previous Leibniz prizewinners, and former members of the Leibniz Selection Committee.

Nominations may be submitted both for individuals and research groups. Direct applications are not accepted.

For the 2021 award, the deadline for nominations is 15 January 2020.
