Policy: Food 2030 Report on Urban Food System Transformation

Reflections on sustainable European food systems in line with the Food 2030 initiative.

Published by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation, Urban Food System Transformation in the Context of Food 2030 reflects on the future of sustainable food systems in line with the priorities of the Food 2030 initiative. It seeks to share good practices and to serve as inspiration for other urban areas wishing to transform their food systems.

The report is based on a survey of 22 European urban food system transformation projects, in-depth interviews, and a participatory workshop with representatives from around 25 European projects and networks.

The report starts by presenting relevant concepts and policies, and then outlines urban food systems in the context of resilience and gives an overview of EU-funded projects and their geographical distribution. It concludes with lessons learned from projects and an outlook to next steps, including outreach beyond the projects’ lifetimes.
