OeNB Klaus Liebscher Economic Research Scholarship

Closing Date: 31/10/2022

Funding for researchers and experts in economics and finance to conduct research in partnership with the Austrian National Bank Economic Analysis and Research Department, with a particular focus on the economy of Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe.

The Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB – Austrian National Bank) has introduced the Klaus Liebscher Economic Research Scholarship to enable outstanding postdoctoral researchers to work with the OeNB Economic Analysis and Research Department and contribute their expertise and research experience while broadening their research horizon, expanding their personal research network and helping to inform policy.

The selected scholarship recipients will be expected to collaborate with the OeNB’s research staff on a pre-specified topic and are invited to participate actively in the department’s internal seminars and other research activities. The Economic Analysis and Research Department has a focus on the economy, monetary policy and financial stability of Central, Eastern and Southeastern (CESEE) with special consideration given to two key areas:

  • Real and monetary convergence – namely CESEE countries’ integration into both the European Union and the euro area, and structural change and transformation, particularly in the context of global value chains and the green transition.
  • Financial stability in CESEE – risks to financial stability and possible spillovers, with a special focus on Austrian banks’ exposure to the region, and ‘euroization’ (ie the use of the euro and household finance).

The scholar will be based at the OeNB in Vienna and provide consultancy and research services to OeNB for a period of two or three months. Research outputs may be published in one of the department’s publication outlets or as an OeNB Working Paper.
