L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science International Awards Open for Nomination

Five prizes of €100,000 are available to recognise female scientists who have made outstanding contributions to the physical, mathematical or computing sciences.

The L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science (FWIS) International Awards recognise outstanding contributions to the advancement of science by female scientists. The L’Oréal charitable foundation and the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) offer five jointly financed International Awards, which alternate each year between the Life and Environmental Sciences and Physical/Computer/Engineering Sciences.

For the 2023 FWIS International Awards, nominees are sought from the Physical, Mathematical and Computing Sciences.

Nominations will be accepted for candidates who are recognised for their personal scientific excellence by the international scientific community within the physical, mathematical and computer science – taking into account the number, quality and impact of publications, conference presentations and patents – and are actively involved in scientific research.

There are five €100,000 prizes available, one per geographical region, covering: Africa and the Arab States; Asia and the Pacific; Europe; Latin America and the Caribbean; North America. The geographical location of the applicant is based on their location for work over the previous five years, rather than nationality.

Nominations will be assessed according to the candidate’s outstanding contribution to the general advancement of science, the impact of their research, recognition by peers in the same discipline, and recognition of their commitment to education, teaching activities, mentoring and/or to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals more broadly.

Nominations may be submitted by eminent scientists from anywhere in the world, including professors, Research Chairs, Members of Academies of Science and Heads of Universities or Scientific Institutes (self-nominations are not permitted).

Nominations for the 2023 awards must be submitted via the awards website by the deadline on 31 May 2022.
