Lister Institute Research Prize Fellowships Open for Application
The Lister Institute of Preventive Medicine Research Prize Fellowships support researchers in the UK and Ireland pursuing high quality biomedical research, with the objectives of supporting both the advancement of knowledge in the biomedical sciences and the development of future leaders of biomedical research.
Funding is aimed at researchers in the early years of running their own independent research groups, where the prize would make a significant difference to their research work and career, and is awarded as a lump sum of £250,000 to support research costs over a five-year period, including equipment, travel, consumables or salaries of postdoctoral workers, technicians and PhD students.
Any area of biomedical sciences research is eligible for consideration, including cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurology, mental health/psychiatry, metabolism (including diabetes and obesity), endocrinology, musculoskeletal, infection and immunity, sensory, reproductive/foetal, gastrointestinal, renal, hepatic, skin, cancer or other discipline; no subject area is given preference.
Any tenured or non-tenured researcher (scientist or clinician) working in an eligible UK or Ireland institution is eligible to apply, provided that they have a confirmed position in a UK or Ireland institution for at least the first three years of an award that will pay their personal salary. Applicants do not need to be UK or Ireland nationals.
Applicants may be scientifically trained and undertaking full-time research, medically qualified but still undergoing some speciality training, and/or leading a research project. There is no age restriction, but individuals must, at the time of taking up an award, have between three and ten years’ research experience.
Applications must be submitted by the closing date of 25 September 2020.
Fellowships for successful applicants will commence on 1 October 2021.
