Launch of 2020 European Prize for Innovation in Fusion Research (Innovation SOFT)

A fundamental basis of the Euratom Programme for 2014-2020 is to support innovation, and in this context, the European Prize for Innovation in Fusion Research (Innovation SOFT) aims to highlight and reward the excellence in innovation that can be found in the fusion research programme as well as the quality of the researchers and industries involved.

There are no specific categories for this prize. Contestants are free to submit an application concerning any physics or technology innovation that has been or is being developed in magnetic confinement fusion research and that has a market potential or has been taken up (or recognised) by industry to be further developed for the market.

The prize will showcase innovations in this research sector and give visibility to the most dynamic, forward-looking and innovative researchers, research teams or industrial participants.

The indicative budget for the prize is €87,500. This will be split as follows:

First prize: €50,000

Second prize: €25,000

Third prize: €12,500

Researchers, research teams or industrial participants benefitting from Euratom financial support are eligible to enter. Contestants must be resident in an EU Member State or a Euratom Associated Country.

Applications are made via the Horizon 2020 online submission system on the Funding & Tenders Portal website.

Applications should be submitted by the 5 March 2020 (17:00 CET) deadline.
