Joachim Herz Stiftung (Joachim Herz Foundation) is a charitable foundation dedicated to the promotion of education, science, and research in economics and the natural sciences. Other areas of activity include the furtherance of the personal development of teens and young adults. The foundation offers grants to support research projects in the fields of medicine, economics, law and engineering technology.

The Joachim Herz Award was established in 2023 to support early career researchers in Germany to work on socially relevant interdisciplinary research and transfer projects. The award is presented alternately to researchers in physics and economics. The prize money is intended to advance interdisciplinary and socially relevant research projects, but also gives researchers the opportunity to develop the transfer potential of their work.

The 2024 award is open to researchers in economics. The thematic focus is particularly on projects addressing the following Goals for Sustainable Development set out by the United Nations (SDGs):

  • Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3).
  • Quality Education (SDG 4).
  • Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (SDG 9).
  • Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11).
  • Climate Action (SDG 13).

In 2025, the focus of the award will be on research in physics.
