International Glaucoma Association PhD Studentship Award 2020

The International Glaucoma Association (IGA) is a research-active charity and support organisation for people with glaucoma. It provides information and advice and funds essential research to prevent unnecessary loss of sight through early detection, diagnosis and treatment.

The IGA has launched a new PhD studentship to support a PhD candidate from a UK or Ireland institution undertaking clinical or non-clinical research that supports the aims of the IGA, which are to:

Increase understanding of the cause and development of glaucoma.

Aid early detection and / or adherence to treatment.

Develop new and improved treatments.

Reduce glaucoma sight loss.

The IGA PhD Studentship Award will provide up to £100,000 over three years to fund an annual stipend (£18,000 inside London/£16,000 outside London), institutional fees, essential equipment and research costs.

Proposals that are hypothesis driven, innovative, involve high quality scientific methodologies and are supported by robust preliminary data are particularly welcome. Proposals should also support one (or more) research priorities identified by the Sight Loss and Vision Priority Setting Partnership (PSP). The project should also include high quality training and development opportunities for the PhD student.

Applications must be made by the potential Lead PhD Supervisor, who must be affiliated with a UK or Eire academic or medical institution and have a contract of employment that extends beyond the end date of the PhD Studentship.

The student must be attached to a UK or Eire institution. Research may be undertaken in the UK, Eire or overseas.

Application forms and guidelines are available from the IGA website.

Applications for the 2020 award should be submitted by the closing date of 30 October 2020 (5pm).
