Human Brain Project Launches 2019 Call for Infrastructure Voucher Programme

The Human Brain Project (HBP) is an Horizon 2020 FET Flagship Project which strives to accelerate the fields of neuroscience, computing and brain-related medicine. The HBP Infrastructure Voucher Programme has been developed to open the HBP’s Platform infrastructure to meet the needs of the user community in a more dynamic way. It enables non-HBP researchers and groups worldwide to secure HBP engineering solutions for their challenging scientific problems.

The voucher scheme works by inviting interested applicants to contact the HBP during the application process to work together on proposals. It is open to all non-HBP researchers, with target groups from academic and medical research, including hospitals, or from industry and pharma (SMEs and larger companies) in the fields of future computing, neuromorphic computing or high-performance analytics and computing, neurorobotics, neuroscience, brain simulation and medical informatics.

The aim is that projects selected for voucher funding will generate unique results that have the potential to lead to innovative opportunities for new solutions, products, services and processes integrated in the HBP Platform infrastructure, combining HBP and external community expertise

The vouchers are worth between six to twelve months of engineering/development time, plus travel costs. The value of each voucher will depend on the personnel and travel costs required to put the selected projects into practice and to guarantee intensive exchange between the participants.

Although voucher winners will not receive direct funding through this call, the vouchers fund the work of the HBP Platform engineering teams to implement the feature requests of the external projects in the HBP Platform infrastructure.

Voucher projects that were rejected in the 2018 voucher call can be re-submitted in agreement with the HBP contact.

Projects must be completed by 31 March 2021.

The deadline for proposals is 27 September 2019.
