Funding is available over a maximum two-year period for research and technology projects addressing defined geological topics, each led by an established researcher in Ireland.

The Geological Survey of Ireland (GSI) is a division of the Government of Ireland’s Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications. GSI is responsible for acquiring and providing geological advice and information in all aspects of Irish geology.

The GSI Geoscience Research Programme aims to address key scientific questions, build capacity, increase research impact and strengthen geoscience research teams in Ireland.

As part of this programme, the Targeted Projects Call supports innovative research or technological development projects that will incorporate GSI data, and/or generate research outputs or data. Supported projects are expected to support national and international policy, strategy and/or regulation.

The 2023 Call contains a number of defined topics as well as a smaller-scale open topic providing an opportunity for applicants to propose projects within GSI’s remit which directly address the aims and objectives of the GSI Research Programme.
