GBIF Young Researchers Award Open for Nominations
The Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) is an international open data infrastructure, funded by numerous governments, which enables individuals from any country to access survey and research data about all types of life on Earth. By encouraging and helping institutions to publish data according to common standards, GBIF enables research which has not been possible before and informs better decisions to conserve and sustainably use the biological resources of the planet.
GBIF’s annual Young Researchers Award aims to foster innovative research and discovery in biodiversity informatics by graduate students who are working with GBIF-enabled data in Masters and doctoral studies. The award is presented to recognise innovation in research that relies on biodiversity data accessed through the GBIF network.
Nominations are invited in respect of graduate students who are enrolled on a Masters or doctoral programme at a university. Candidates must be either citizens of a country participating in GBIF or students at an institution located in a GBIF participant country.
There are two awards of €5,000 – one for a Masters student and one for a doctoral student.
Students interested in being nominated must submit their applications to a Head of Delegation of a GBIF participant country. GBIF’s national participant delegations are responsible for setting and announcing their own deadlines and processes for student submissions. For detailed information on any specific country, graduate students who wish to seek nomination for the awards should consult the website of their national GBIF participants or contact the Head of Delegation directly.
Applications by GBIF Heads of Delegations must be submitted by the deadline of 15 May 2019.
