Fight for Sight Project Grants Now Open to Application
Fight for Sight Project Grants provide funding to researchers who wish to undertake clinical or non-clinical research projects that aim to address sight loss caused by any eye disease or condition. Applications are invited for stand-alone projects which are hypothesis driven, innovative and involve high quality scientific methodologies. Projects involving collaborative/multidisciplinary teams are encouraged. It is expected that the majority of project grant funding will be allocated to applications that fall within the Strategic Programme areas:
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Glaucoma.
Inherited eye diseases.
Sight loss linked to other diseases (Multi-morbidities).
For this round, Fight for Sight has announced the following project grant partnerships under this Strategic Programme. They are:
Fight for Sight/Stroke Association Project Grant – to address visual impairment associated with Stroke within a multidisciplinary team.
Fight for Sight/Nystagmus Network Project Grant – to support one postdoctoral researcher to address visual impairment associated with Nystagmus.
Fight for Sight/Welsh Government Project Grant Award – partnering with Health and Care Research Wales (HCRW) and the Chief Optometric Adviser for Wales this award is available to an eligible Host institution based within Wales. Project within any area of eye research is eligible, although research in the fields of myopia and corneal disease is of particular interest.
The research may be carried out in the UK or overseas.
Applications from new investigators and those currently working in fields outside of vision research are welcomed.
Lead applicants must be affiliated with UK academic or medical institutions and are expected to have a PhD or MD. Applicants must have a contract of employment which extends beyond the termination date of the award.
Project Grants provide support of up to £250,000 for up to three years. Salary, consumables, essential equipment, animal costs and open access publication costs are covered by the grant.
Applications must be submitted by the deadline of 11 July 2019.
