Expressions of Interest Invited for UK Climate Resilience – Met Office Open Calls
The UK Climate Resilience programme aims to draw together fragmented climate research and expertise to deliver robust, multi- and inter-disciplinary climate risk and adaptation solutions research ensuring the UK is resilient to climate variability and change and powerfully positioned to exploit the opportunities of adaptation and green growth.
The Met Office and UKRI are inviting proposals to the Strategic Priorities Fund – UK Climate Resilience: Met Office open call. The calls generally provide funding for topics relating to making UK cities and regions resilient to climate change, and ensuring adaptation delivers improvements to society and economic growth.

Requirements for incorporating climate variability and changes into national guidance standards – DN420232
A wide range of sectors in the UK that are affected by weather and climate define national guidance standards. These are either mandated, or recommended as good practice. This project will seek to establish the range of national guidance standards which take climate variability and change into account, and to recommend approaches for building updated climate information into the standards.
Funding of £50,000 is available for 12 months from November 2019.
Risk estimates using techniques from catastrophe modelling – DN420242
The use of catastrophe (CAT) models based on historical weather and climate data is routine within the reinsurance / insurance industry. This project will develop a new methodology for using UK climate projections, specifically those from UKCP18, with CAT modelling techniques.
Funding of £250,000 is available for 18 months from November 2019.
Demonstration of a climate service to address the resilience needs of the UK health sector – DN420172
The Met Office are inviting expressions of interest with a specific focus on health research for the Strategic Priorities Strategic Fund (SPF) UK Climate Resilience Programme. The objective of the call is to fund applied research that addresses the need to connect health, environmental data and information to build UK resilience to climate variability and change.
Funding of £150,000 is available for 12 months from November 2019.
Development and provision of UK socioeconomic scenarios – DN420214
To support the research into UK climate risk and resilience, bids are sought to develop a set of detailed future socioeconomic scenarios for the UK. This project will build on work commissioned ahead of the 3rd climate change risk assessment and engage with other SPF Climate Resilience projects as needed to ensure the needs of the research community will be met by the project plan.
Funding of £500,000 is available for 18 months from November 2019.
Demonstration of a climate service to address the resilience needs of the UK water sector – DN420192
The Met Office are inviting expressions of interest to demonstrate the application of climate projections in the UK water sector. This work will seek to develop a climate service prototype that assists the UK water sector with the management of climate change.
Funding of £250,000 is available for 18 months from November 2019.
Eligible organisations must be registered and operate within the UK. Consortium bids are eligible; a lead partner must be nominated for payment and agreement purposes. Details of all consortium members must be provided.
