Eni Award Opens for 2019

Eni, based in Italy, is a major integrated energy company and seeks to promote and reward research and technological innovation in the fields of energy and the environment.

Launched in 2008, the Eni Award is an international award aiming to promote and reward research and technological innovation in the fields of energy and the environment. The initiative seeks to: encourage better use of conventional energy sources; promote the gradual decarbonisation of the energy system through the use of renewable sources; encourage research on environmental protection; and help new generations of researchers to emerge.

The initiative seeks to recognise achievements in the following categories:

Energy Frontiers: awarded to a researcher or group of scientists that have achieved internationally significant research and development results in the field of renewable energy sources and their grid integration, energy storage and access to energy in developing countries.

Energy Transition: awarded to a researcher or group of scientists that have achieved internationally significant research and development results in the field of production, transport and use of natural gas or the capture, utilisation and sequestration of carbon dioxide.

Advanced Environmental Solutions: awarded to a researcher or group of scientists that have achieved internationally significant research and development results in the field of environmental protection, including climate change adaptation/mitigation and remediation strategies.

Young Researcher of the Year (two awards available): awarded for PhD research theses, defended in Italian universities, addressing the following topics: action against water, air and land pollution; prevention of climate warming and pollution; rehabilitation and reuse of industrial sites; renewable energy and energy storage; production, transport and use of natural gas; capture, utilisation and sequestration of carbon dioxide; and energy efficiency.

Debut in Research – Young Talents from Africa (four awards available): helping new generations of African researchers to emerge, offering them the opportunity to attend a PhD course in cooperation with prestigious Italian universities and research institutes and supporting their research and innovation on the various scientific topics promoted by the Eni Award.

Recognition at Innovation Eni (internal award): to promote and award innovative and applied research on energy and environment, developed at Eni.

Awards are open to researchers or groups of scientists worldwide who have achieved internationally significant results in the research and development of technologies in the specific fields. Self nomination is permitted (except in the Young Researcher of the Year and Debut in Research – Young Talents from Africa categories).

The Young Researcher of the Year category must be entered by professors, department heads, faculty deans and chancellors of universities operating in Italy. The student must have been born in or after 1987.
