Coimbra Group Scholarship Mobility Programme for Young Researchers Opens for 2023

Mobility scholarships for young researchers and staff from universities in Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and the European Neighbourhood to spend up to three months at participating Coimbra Group universities.

The Coimbra Group is an association of European universities committed to creating special academic and cultural ties in order to promote internationalisation, academic collaboration, excellence in learning and research, and service to society.

The Coimbra Group provides a scholarship mobility scheme to enable young researchers from universities in Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and the European Neighbourhood to spend a short period of time (usually between one and three months) at a Coimbra Group University to carry out part of their research.

The programme aims to help scholars undertake research they are engaged in at their home institution and help them establish academic and research contacts. The dates of the proposed stay should be agreed upon between the applicant and the academic supervisor at the Coimbra Group University, but will typically be during the academic year 2023/24.

Generally, applicants should be young academic staff at a higher education institution in one of the eligible Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and the European Neighbourhood countries. They must also be nationals of and current residents in eligible countries. Eligible countries are as follows:

Sub-Saharan Africa

All African countries except Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia (researchers from these countries may apply under the European Neighbourhood scheme).

Latin America – All Latin American countries.

European Neighbourhood

Albania, Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Egypt, Georgia, Israel, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Libya, Moldova, Montenegro, Morocco, Republic of Northern Macedonia, the Palestinian Authority, Russia, Serbia, Syria, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

Applicants should note that some Coimbra Group Universities may restrict the eligibility to some of the otherwise eligible countries. In addition, the exact value, length and conditions of funding vary between different Coimbra Group Universities. Applicants should consult the relevant call documents for specific details of the scholarship offered by their chosen institution for full details.

Applications should be submitted online by the 7 April 2023 (23:59) deadline.
