Applications Invited for THIS Institute COVID-19: Intensive Care Experiences Fellowship
Launched in January 2018, the Healthcare Improvement Studies Institute (THIS Institute) was co-created by the University of Cambridge and the Health Foundation to strengthen the evidence-base for improving the quality and safety of healthcare.
THIS Institute has launched the COVID-19: Intensive Care Experiences Fellowship to enable experienced qualitative researchers to lead a project to capture the experiences of people who have been critically ill with COVID-19 and been cared for in an ICU, and those of family members of survivors and non-survivors. The fellow will explore and evaluate how the perspectives and priorities of patients themselves can provide a basis for co-design of care and service models for care on ICU and for support/follow-up. This will generate learning from the response to COVID-19 and help enhance planning for future pandemics.
The appointed fellow will be offered a professional development programme customised to the specifics of the fellow’s needs, commitments, and fellowship duration. The programme may include, for example, membership of a learning set, coaching, and/or mentoring. Full engagement with the agreed programme will be expected.
Applicants should hold a research/academic position in a UK university, and hold a PhD in either social science, health services research, health psychology or a related subject or, exceptionally, equivalent postgraduate research experience. They should also have a good publications record for their stage of career, including peer-reviewed qualitative research publications.
Applicants should have a demonstrable interest in how patient experience might be used to inform the design and implementation of improvement strategies in healthcare. This fellowships may be especially suitable for academic or research staff who would benefit from replacement salary while their current research is paused.
The fellowship should be completed in 18 months, or up to a maximum of 24 months if part-time. It is expected that the fellowship will begin during summer 2020, and the successful applicant will remain employed by their own university for the duration of the fellowship.
The award will include salary costs and research expenses directly relevant to the project up to a maximum of £120,000.
Applications should be submitted via the Fellowship Management System by the 9 June 2020 (12:00) deadline. Funding decisions will be made in mid-June 2020.
