Applications are Welcomed for the INCa Colorectal Cancer Screening (Experimentation)

Funding is available to support researchers who wish to conduct a specific experimentation in the field of colorectal cancer in France.

France’s National Cancer Institute (INCa) was created in 2004 and is the health and science agency responsible for cancer control in France. It reports to the French Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and the Ministry of National Education, Higher Learning and Research.

INCa is currently accepting applications for the INCa Colorectal Cancer Screening (Experimentation) call. This call aims to experiment and evaluate a new strategy for delivering colorectal cancer screening kits to a targeted population. The experiment will consist of directly sending screening kits to homes without prior order. This involves conducting an experiment, that bring together a set of three randomised controlled studies in three different regions, with a common protocol, that compare:

  • This modality of access to the kit (intervention component)
  • The reference situation, which are the current delivery methods provided in the cahier des charges (reference component)

Each study is conducted by a different CRCDC (Centre Régional de Coordination des Dépistages des Cancers). The scope of each study may correspond to all or part of the region placed under the responsibility of the participating CRCDC (for example a department). The experiment must include (depending on the region) areas with low/high medical density, areas with low/high participation rates and areas with different socio-demographic criteria.

The maximum duration of the experiment is 36 months.

The experiment must be conducted and coordinated by the candidate (a single organisation), which can either be:

  • One of the three CRCDC conducting one of the three studies (the project leader submitting an application to this call for projects) in partnership with the other two centres
  • A public research or public health organisation (epidemiology, biostatistics, etc) in partnership with the three participating CRCDCs

The coordination of the experiment is ensured by a single person: the designated coordinator who must be legally affiliated to the applicant organisation. Coordinators cannot simultaneously coordinate more than three projects funded by INCa.

Detailed information regarding eligible expenses can be found in INCa’s Financial Regulation document (Règlement financier).

The maximum value of the grant is €300,000 to meet the costs associated with the evaluation of the experiment.

Applications for the 2021 call must be submitted by the deadline of 15 October 2021 (16:00 Paris time).
