Additional Round of IHS Humane Studies Fellowships For PhD Students Affected by COVID-19 Outbreak
The Institute for Humane Studies (IHS) at George Mason University in the United States is a leading institute in higher education dedicated to championing classical liberal ideas and the scholars who advance them.
The Institute’s Humane Studies Fellowship (HSF) is a renewable, non-residency award to support research by students enrolled on PhD programmes that are due to commence in the upcoming academic year. The fellowship is intended for graduate students in the humanities and social sciences with an interest in developing, teaching and applying classical liberal ideas and the principles of a free society. Qualifying fields of study include economics, political science, philosophy, law, history, sociology, and similar disciplines in the social sciences and humanities.
The IHS has launched an additional application round for its summer 2020 Humane Studies Fellowships to engage with currently enrolled graduate students whose 2020 summer plans may have changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
To be eligible, applicants must:
Be enrolled full-time in a PhD programme for the upcoming academic year at any university.
Have a research interest that contributes to the advancement of classical liberal scholarship.
The maximum fellowship award is US$15,000. In addition to funding, fellowship recipients receive individual academic advice as well as guidance, resources, and access to a passionate and supportive community of scholars dedicated to the advancement of classical liberal ideas.
International students are eligible although preference is given to applicants who live or study in the United States, Canada, and/or United Kingdom.
Applications for the additional summer 2020 fellowships should be submitted via the IHS website by the deadline of 30 April 2020.
