ADDF Issues 2020 Core Funding Scheme Deadlines

Founded in 1998 and based in the US, the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation (ADDF) seeks to rapidly accelerate the discovery of drugs to prevent, treat and cure Alzheimer’s disease.

ADDF’s four core funding programmes provide support for research organisations worldwide to advance therapeutic and biomarker development for Alzheimer’s and related dementias. The four schemes are:

Neuroimaging and CSF Biomarker Development Program: aims to develop biomarkers for which there is a clear clinical need in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

Drug Development Program: development of therapeutics for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, focusing on building preclinical evidence in animal models and advancing lead molecules to the clinical candidate selection stage.

Program to Accelerate Clinical Trials (PACT): developed to increase the number of innovative pharmacologic interventions tested in clinical studies for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, including novel, repurposed and repositioned drugs as well as natural products.

Prevention Beyond the Pipeline: seeks to support comparative effectiveness research, prevention clinical trials and epidemiological studies that investigate whether the use or choice of drugs alters the risk for dementia or cognitive decline.

Application is open to researchers and clinicians based in academic medical centres, universities, biotechnology companies (existing companies and new start-ups) and non-profit organisations worldwide. Industry partnerships are strongly encouraged.

Awards vary between the programes, with funding of up to $3 million available depending on the stage and scope of research. Project duration also varies and multi-year proposals can be considered.

Application is via a two-stage process: Letter of Intent followed by an invited full proposal. The quarterly 2020 deadlines have been announced as:

First 2020 round

Letter of Intent deadline: 17 January 2020

Invited full proposal deadline: 7 February 2020

Second 2020 round

Letter of Intent deadline: 10 April 2020

Invited full proposal deadline: 8 May 2020

Third 2020 round

Letter of Intent deadline: 10 July 2020

Invited full proposal deadline: 7 August 2020

Fourth 2020 round

Letter of Intent deadline: 9 October 2020

Invited full proposal deadline: 6 November 2020

Proposals should be made through ADDF’s Funding Portal (initial registration as a portal user is required).
