2019 JSPS International Prize for Biology Open for Nominations

The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) administers the International Prize for Biology to recognise outstanding scientists working in the fields of systematic biology and taxonomy and other fields of fundamental biology.

Each year the prize is awarded to recognise the superlative achievements of a distinguished researcher for work in a specified field of biology, as identified by the Prize Committee. The 35th (2019) annual International Prize for Biology will be awarded for outstanding research in the field of Biology of Insects.

Nominations are invited from organisations and individuals in respect of biologists, from anywhere in the world, who have conducted outstanding research within the field specified by the Prize Committee. There are no restrictions on the nationality of the nominee.

The prize includes an imperial gift, certificate, medal and cash award of ¥10,000,000 (approx. €78,000 or £67,000). The prize is presented at a dedicated ceremony. In conjunction with the ceremony, an international symposium is held in which the Prize recipient is invited to give a special lecture.

Nominations should be submitted online via the JSPS website by the deadline of 19 April 2019.
