Worldwide Cancer Research Grants Now Open

Worldwide Cancer Research aims to find and fund life-saving research around the world to end the suffering and death caused by cancer.

Grants are awarded to support novel and innovative basic, fundamental and translational research into the prevention, diagnosis or treatment of cancer. Any field of research within this area is considered. Research that draws on epidemiological, behavioural and clinical data to provide a starting point for a new avenue of research is welcomed. Multidisciplinary or discipline-hopping projects are encouraged where this helps stimulate innovation.

The research described in the proposal should be a discrete, hypothesis-driven project and achievable within the proposed timeframe. Applications that contain a small clinical element as an essential part of a basic or translational research project are often permitted, but advice from Worldwide Cancer Research must be sought before submitting a project proposal.

Grants are awarded to Principal Investigators based at not-for-profit research institutes anywhere in the world. Principal Investigators must be suitably qualified researchers (minimum of PhD followed by three years’ research experience, or equivalent qualification or research experience).

The maximum budget allowed is £250,000, however, most of the three-year grants awarded have a budget below £200,000. Grants cover the direct costs of the project, including:

Research consumables and reagents.

Salaries of research staff working directly on the project.

Travel to conferences or to visit collaborators.

Essential services or small pieces of specialist/unusual equipment.

Grants are 12 to 36 months in length.

Applications must be submitted by the deadline of 3 April 2020 (17:00 BST).
