Wazoku Crowd (previously InnoCentive) is a global innovation hub that hosts a range of innovation challenges for the wider benefit of humankind. Commercial, governmental, public sector, non-profit and humanitarian organisations (“Seekers”) can engage with the Wazoku Crowd community to solicit solutions to innovation or development challenges by offering financial awards.

This Wazoku Crowd Ideation Challenge – Hydrogen Production with a Lower Carbon Footprint – has been put forward by Aramaco, the Saudi Oil Group, to seek novel ideas and innovative concepts for the production, distribution, and utilisation of lower-cost, lower-carbon hydrogen.
The Carbon Management Research & Development Team at Aramco is exploring cost-efficient innovations to produce hydrogen from traditional hydrocarbon feedstocks with lower carbon emissions. The challenge will assist Aramaco in developing cheaper and more environmentally-friendly methods of hydrogen production and contribute to its NetZero 2050 goals.
Research and development of a number of technologies, including reforming catalysis, CO2 capture processes and materials, intensified process configurations, renewable energy integration, and hydrocarbon fed fuel cells, promises to help lower the cost of lower-carbon hydrogen production. However, transformational and novel ideas for innovative technology concepts are required to achieve the goal of lower cost, lower-carbon hydrogen production.
Aramco is seeking such ideas and concepts to help achieve its ambition of creating hydrogen at a cost of $0.80 and with less than 4.3 kilograms of CO2 emitted for each kilogram of hydrogen produced.
