OECD International Transport Forum Decarbonising Transport Award

Closing Date: 13/02/2022

Award to recognise and support research and initiatives to help develop carbon-neutral transport solutions to meet the increasing demand of transport activity in emerging economies.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) International Transport Forum (ITF) is an intergovernmental think tank for transport policy across all transport modes and is the organiser of the Annual Summit of transport ministers. The aims of the ITF are to contribute to economic growth, environmental protection and social inclusion and to preserve human life and wellbeing.

The ITF Decarbonising Transport initiative promotes carbon-neutral mobility to help governments and industry to translate climate ambitions into actions to help stop climate change. It provides decision makers with tools to select CO2 mitigation measures that deliver on their climate commitments.

The initiative is organised along five main work streams – Tracking progress; In-depth sectoral studies; Focus studies; National pathways; and Policy dialogue – to help achieve the objectives of building a catalogue of effective CO2 mitigation measures (the Transport Climate Action Directory), providing targeted analytical assistance for countries and partners to identify climate actions that work, accumulating and disseminating evidence for best practices that will accelerate the transition to carbon-neutral mobility and shaping the climate change debate by building a global policy dialogue.

Within the framework of the Decarbonising Transport Initiative, the ITF offers the Decarbonising Transport Award to support ideas for research and innovation that help to cut transport CO2 in emerging economies.

Despite the need for research and innovation to advance and promote carbon-neutral transport solutions to meet the increasing demand of transport activity in emerging economies, funding and incentives for such developments are scarce and this vital challenge remains unaddressed.

The award offers recognition and support for projects to decarbonise transport in emerging economics and thus prevent further contribution to climate change.
