Mind & Life PEACE Grants

Closing Date: 01/03/2023

Funding is provided for individual and joint research projects between scientists and contemplative scholars/practitioners around the world that aim to improve wellbeing and prosocial behaviour in individuals and communities.

The Mind & Life Institute is a non-profit organisation that funds contemplative research to promote individual and interpersonal wellbeing, societal flourishing and human-earth connection.

PEACE Grants are offered by the Institute on an annual basis to support research which seeks to deepen the understanding of the human mind in terms of Prosociality, Empathy, Altruism, Compassion and Ethics (PEACE) in order to foster positive action in the world.

Grant funding is available for researchers working individually or in collaboration with a Co-Principal Investigator to examine the ways of cultivating PEACE qualities, the basic mechanisms underlying PEACE qualities and/or the development of measures to assess PEACE qualities.

Projects that are especially encouraged would focus on the following areas:

  • The impact of positive and negative emotions on personal wellbeing.
  • Creating compassionate communities and investigating the mind processes that cause separation in society.
  • The role of contemplative research in forming human-earth connection.

In the past, between four and seven awards have been made in a given cycle.
