Max Weber Award

Closing Date: 15/06/2024

Biennial award for excellent doctoral or habilitation theses by researchers around the world focusing on interdisciplinary cultural and social studies with historical depth.

The Max-Weber-Kolleg für kultur- und sozialwissenschaftliche Studien (Max Weber Centre for Advanced Cultural and Social Studies) is based at the University of Erfurt, Germany. It combines the functions of an Institute for Advanced Study and a Graduate School, allowing its fellows to pursue research projects that contribute to the core themes of the Centre, and to offer guidance to doctoral and postdoctoral researchers. The Centre also offers a number of research awards and fellowships.

The Max Weber Award (Max-Weber-Preis für Nachwuchsforschung) is awarded by the Max Weber Centre every two years in order to honour the outstanding work of a young researcher in the context of a Weberian research programme ie in the field of interdisciplinary cultural and social studies with historical depth and/or interest in normative questions. The aim is not an exegesis of the work of Max Weber, but rather the application of his research programme to questions of cultural, religious and social science.

The prize can be used for research purposes, especially publication printing subsidies and/or to finance a one-month research stay at the Max Weber Centre. In case of a research stay, the Centre will provide a workplace with infrastructure.

The award ceremony is expected to take place during the Academic Annual Celebration of the Max Weber Centre in 2025 in Erfurt, Germany.
