Käte Hamburger Kolleg – Cultures of Research (c:o/re)

Closing Date: 31/12/2022

Annual fellowship programme for outstanding researchers who wish to join the Käte Hamburger Kolleg’s cultural research centre in Aachen, Germany for a period of twelve months.

The Käte Hamburger Kolleg: Cultures of Research (c:o/re) at the RWTH Aachen University aims to create an interdisciplinary platform of scholars from humanities, arts, social and natural sciences and technology. Each year, the centre offers up to ten fellowships to junior and senior researchers to develop fresh approaches to the commonalities and differences between cultures of research. The main aim of the initiative is to explore new cultures of (transdisciplinary) research and develop new theories and methodologies for investigating scientific transformations.

The 2023/2024 call focuses on the topic of life-likeness as it emerges at the interface of engineering, AI, life sciences and material sciences. In particular, fellows are expected to focus on the following fields:

  • Digitalization of research (simulation, artificial intelligence, machine learning) for the study of epistemic complex systems (eg climate change, energy revolution, biologization, sustainability).
  • Participatory arrangements between science and society.
  • Investigating histories and varieties of cultures of research.

The 2023/2024 call welcomes junior and senior researchers from the fields of humanities, social sciences, natural, life and technical sciences as well as arts, art history, science journalism and scientific illustration.

The centre is supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
