IWM Jerzy Giedroyc Junior Visiting Fellowships

Fellowships are available in Vienna, Austria to doctoral students and early career researchers for projects relating to the interconnected histories of Poland, Belarus, Lithuania and Ukraine and the life and work of Jerzy Giedroyc.

The Institut für die Wissenschaften vom Menschen (IWM – Institute for Human Sciences) is an Austrian independent institute for advanced study in the humanities and social sciences established in 1982. Its mission is to promote intellectual exchange between East and West, between academia and society and between a variety of disciplines and schools of thought.

The IWM Jerzy Giedroyc Junior Visiting Fellowships were established with the goals of honouring the legacy of the founding editor of the Kultura publishing house, Jerzy Giedroyc, and promoting wider understanding of the interconnected history and intellectual traditions of the lands of modern-day Poland, Belarus, Lithuania and Ukraine.

The fellowships, which will take place in Vienna, Austria, are targeted at scholars working on projects concerned with:

  • Polish-Ukrainian, Polish-Belarusian and/or Polish-Lithuanian relations.
  • Questions of history, politics and literature relevant to the above countries’ relations.
  • The legacy of Jerzy Giedroyc and/or the journal and publishing house Kultura.

The fellowships are open to candidates from all academic disciplines in the humanities and social sciences.
