The first call of the new European Biodiversity Partnership will be launched in October on the topic of ‘supporting the protection of biodiversity and ecosystems across land and sea’.

The first call of the new European Biodiversity Partnership, the successor to Biodiversera, is expected to be launched in October 2021. The transnational joint research call will be on the topic of ‘supporting the protection of biodiversity and ecosystems across land and sea’.

The call will cover the following three non-exclusive themes:

  • Knowledge for identifying priority conservation areas, establishing effective and resilient ecological networks, enhancing species-based protection, and preserving genetic diversity
  • Multiple benefits and costs of biodiversity and ecosystem protection: synergies and trade-offs
  • Effective management and equitable governance to deliver bold conservation outcome

Research consortia applying to the call must include teams from a minimum of three participating countries (including a minimum of two from EU Member States or EU Associated Countries). The following 33 countries have expressed a preliminary interest in participating in the call: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Morocco, Norway, Poland, Portugal (incl. the Azores), Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, The Netherlands, Tunisia and Turkey.

An information webinar for potential applicants will take place on 12 October 2021. Registration for the webinar will open in September 2021.

It is anticipated that the closing date for pre-proposals will be at the end of November 2021, with a deadline for full proposals in April 2022.
